I'm planning a row of paper-pieced chickens next and will rearrange the rows some. It's over-growing my modest design wall.
It was a sunny but cold day and we are still trying to figure out what to do with Phil. There seems to be no pecking when they are free-ranging together.
Here's my flock:
Star
Henny Penny
Ethel
Alma
Barbara
Stella
Philmont

Cute chickens! Poor Phil... seems I remember my Granny use to keep her hens in the coop at night and the rooster didn't get locked up at night with them... but I don't know if he had a different place or just found any ole place to hang out.
I saw your comment on my blog about the challenge... I do have a post in the works... and a possible challenge to throw out to anyone... so please check back. I've always had lots of fun with them.
Your chickens are gorgeous!
Came over here from a post you made on another blog--so glad I did. I am going to put my foot down about getting 6 hens and 1 rooster that I have beeen wanting--How did you go about just getting one of each breed? I fugured I would have to have all the same kind. Oh, I was overjoyed to see your Gwen and Freddie quilt--love those 2, especially Gwen- just bought their book-love it--I have two other Gwen books and one other Freddie book. If you are doing that quilt, so can I!!! I'm going to get it going. Thanks, Bobbie
Hi Bobbie,
I ordered my chicks from mybackyardchicken.com. They will send a small order and you can get just one of each variety if you want. The shipping is expensive, but all arrived healthy and they all survived, so I felt it was worth it. They only guarantee 90% accuracy in their sexing, and I did end up with one rooster, but that happens with all companies from what I've heard.
Let me know how it goes!
Correction:
I odered from mypetchicken.com. BackYard Chickens is a great forum to read to learn about raising small-flock poultry but they don't sell chickens.
You have the prettiest chickens. We only had white ones when I was growing up. We have a huge county fair and I get to see all of the varieties there too.
